July 4 Independence Run
« on: July 04, 2005, 10:41:50 AM »
10K in Milton, WI this morning.

Temp, 71 degrees, 100% humidity. Pretty sure it was 100% as it rained the ENTIRE race. Steady rain, with periods of downpour and some lightning that was too close for me, anyways.

Wanted to run smooth and smart, improve upon my time from 2 years ago (37:58). Splits were like so...

5:50, 6:03, 5:58, 5:49, 6:07, 6:09, 1:14

37:10 for final time, 3rd place overall, 1st in 40-44 age group.

Wanted to run sub 6:00 pace, so I'm happy that I accomplished it by 2 seconds, esp. in the soup. Pretty steady and even splits indicates I ran a pretty smart race. I was 6th at the mile, 4th at 2, and 3rd from 2.5 miles on.  Being 30 seconds ahead of 4th, and 80 seconds behind 2nd, I was pretty much by myself.

Results show I'm progressing nicely compared to 2003.
I know there\'s a balance... I see it when I swing past.

Very nice effort Peter.  It has to feel great to break the 6:00 per barrier.  Very nice.
