Cross country win/loss record
« on: November 06, 2005, 04:04:00 PM »
Hey, I know someone here can help me with my question!

When an article says that a cross country coach has a 99-5 record for the year...

Does that mean he's beaten 99 of the teams faced for the season, and been beaten by only 5?  (So if a team basically finished in the middle of the teams each week, the coaches record would be roughly 50/50 wins and losses? and 99-5 would be an awesome record, right?)

That's what I assume, but I just want to be sure.

That's the way I've seen it done. So if, for example, a team finishes 2nd out of 10 at a meet, they would be 8-1 from that meet (beat 8 teams, lost to 1 in that meet).
