Monte-Carlo - Following a meeting of the IAAF World Athletics Tour Working Group which took place recently in Birmingham, UK, the IAAF is pleased to announce that the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City, USA on 2 June 2007 has been upgraded to IAAF Grand Prix status and as such is now part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour for 2007.

Famously, the 2006 edition of the meeting in New York City’s Icahn Stadium witnessed a women’s World 5000m record of 14:24.53 set by Ethiopia’s Olympic champion Meseret Defar.

The inclusion of New York brings the World Athletics Tour for 2007 up to a total of 24 meetings, with the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, on Sunday, 10 June, also an IAAF Grand Prix, being the only other fixture in the USA.
