Hosts confirm Marathon squad for Osaka

The Japanese marathon team for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan (25 Aug - 2 Sep 2007) was announced yesterday.

The men’s team consists of Wataru Okutani, Toshinari Suwa, Satoshi Osaki, Tsuyoshi Ogata and Mitsuru Kubota.  The women’s team consists of Yumiko Hara, Reiko Tosa, Mari Ozaki, Yasuko Hashimoto and Kiyoko Shimahara.  Tomoyuki Sato is a reserve for the men’s team, while Yuri Kano is a reserve for the women’s team.

The top Japanese finisher in the Osaka races will automatically be selected for the 2008 Olympic marathon team provided he or she wins a medal.
