Georgia Tech says no to Peachtree Road Race
« on: February 05, 2008, 02:51:54 PM »
What does the world's largest 10K do when it can't find a location for its finish line? I guess we're going to find out...

The Atlanta Track Club's Plan A for a new finish line for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race is out the window.

Georgia Tech told the club Thursday that it cannot offer its campus as a finish area for the July 4 race. The world's largest 10-kilometer race can't end at Piedmont Park this year because of the city's ban on using the park for events with 50,000 or more people for the duration of the drought.

"I think we were really hoping" that Tech would serve as the finish area, track club executive director Tracey Russell said. "They had a great area for us to be able to send our runners through to get the services they need and get them back on MARTA."
