Boston 2008
« on: April 16, 2008, 10:30:06 AM »
Weather looks ok - Headwind, but not over bearing.

For the 1st time (Other than pace team) I am running a marathon for fun - I had already paid the money.  It does not mean I will put no effort into the marathon - just that I will be satisfied with 90-95% effort.  I do have 2 time goals - 1)  To BQ (3:20) and to not run a  PW (3:09:48) With 7 weeks of training (After 6 months pretty much off) - Its kindof a crap shoot.  There are days the 3:20 goal seems unreachable and times the 3:09 feels in the bag.

All I do know is watching the Womens' marathon trials and  ecperiencing the Boston Marathon will be a lot of fun!

If anyone is tracking athleted on line and interested I am #1395.   I am hoping to keep between 22-23 minute 5ks.  It will take a lot of discipline to run the 1st one that slow out of the 1st coral.

Best wishes to you and to the others who will be out there. I know there are at least a few more from here who will be doing the big one on Monday.

At least it's looking like things should be better than last year.

Have a great run at Boston. I'll be back with the old, slow folk  (#14881). At 61 just trying to finish under 3:50 and enjoy my run. Ski

Wow what a day - It was 45 and overcast until 10 minutes to gun time and then the sun came out and it warmed up - A decent day to run and a perfect day to spectate.  I think I high-Fived 300+ kids, avoided the girls at Wellesley and ran the race I wanted 95% even effort.  Amazing that I think it was shoulder to shoulder spectators except maybe a grand total of 1/2 to 1 mile.  3-4-5 deep in places.  I will say at the pace I ran it was impossible to try and run any tangents - people everywhere the whole race.

I ran 1:32:39 1st half and 1:34:37 2nd half.   Although a 1:58 positive split, I think it was fairly even effort for how the course sets up.

Great fun - I hope to go back some day when I am more fit.

Outstanding job. On 95% effort - Wow. Way to go. Wish that I could get that second half kick  and get over those Newton Hills like that. I finished 3:30:34 and 35 in the Seniors. I'll have to do the extra needed to get thru those darn hills at the 16-21 mile marks. Again Great Job and we really did have a great day to run. Keep it going. Ski
