LINCOLN, Neb. -- For the third time in his collegiate career, University of Colorado senior Brent Vaughn earned the right to climb to the top of the podium after the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Midwest Region Championship.
Vaughn won Friday's race in 13 minutes, 54.7 seconds to break the meet record of 13:57.36 that he set when he won the event last year. Vaughn also won the regional title in 2005.
Vaughn was followed across the finish line at Ed Weir Stadium by teammate Stephen Pifer. The senior clocked 13:58.7 for second place. CU's Kenyon Neuman finished fourth in 14:00.28.
For their efforts, all three Buffs advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 11-14.
