30 May 2008 - Competition in the middle distances provided the chief highlights at the Algiers CAA Super Grand Prix in the Algerian capital on Thursday (29).

The Brazzaville meet is one of a select group of Area meetings at which points can be acquired by athletes to qualify for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, to be held on 13-14 September in Stuttgart.


Romanian Liliana Popescu, the early season world leader in the 1500m, won the event in 4:07.05, more than two seconds clear of Kenyan Nancy Jebet (4:09.67). last weekend, the 26-year-old produced an impressive double at a domestic Grand Prix meeting in Bucharest, clocking 1:59.34 and 4:00.35, both personal bests for the Valencia 1500m finals.
