Barringer expects clear breathing at Olympics

BOULDER — The CSTV announcers working the NCAA Track and Field Championships last month said some interesting things about Colorado steeplechaser Jenny Barringer. And some of them were even accurate.

What wasn’t, or what was exaggerated, as Barringer described it, was the recounting of her childhood maladies. They said Barringer had asthma, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 6 months old, and she also had a deviated septum. Barringer cleared things up this week.

“I don’t know where they got their information, but some of it was blown way out of proportion,” Barringer said. “I was never diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. There was some concern about that when I was really young, but I don’t know how they found out about that.”
