This Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of when I first registered the URL hillrunner.com and the story of Hillrunner.com began. Well, the whole story began a little earlier but the life of Hillrunner.com itself began on April 5th, 1999, with the website first coming online a day or two later.
Over the course of April, I would like to review the history of the first 10 years of Hillrunner.com and look forward to the future. On the first weekend, the one that marks our 10th anniversary, I'll review the beginnings of Hillrunner.com. On the second weekend, I'll review some of the events that happened at Hillrunner.com over its first decade, including things like race coverage and Team Hillrunner.com. On the third weekend, I'll review the changes Hillrunner.com has gone through on the site itself, including new sections being added and major upgrades to sections like the forums and the calendar. On the final weekend, we'll take a look at the future of Hillrunner.com and announce what I feel will be an exciting new feature on Hillrunner.com and a great way to start our second decade.
Of course, what really makes Hillrunner.com the site that it is, is the community here. The review of Hillrunner.com history wouldn't be complete without consistent reminders of this. So, throughout, expect to hear about the community behind the website and, as a member of that community, receive plenty of thanks along the way. In fact, let's start right now. Without the whole community behind Hillrunner.com, especially those who are most visible in the forums but really everyone including the many "silent" visitors who stop in every day to see what is new, I can't say whether or not Hillrunner.com could have made it 10 years. It's always a labor of love but, without reaching anyone, it would have been a fruitless labor that I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to maintain.
Thank you to everyone who has made Hillrunner.com possible. I hope you look forward to reading about the history and future of Hillrunner.com as much as I look forward to reflecting and looking forward on what, over the past decade, has become a big part of my life.
Note:
I will be cross-posting this and the weekend reviews/preview on two forums. I will be posting on Hillrunner.com News so these reviews can be a part of the record of what has been happening at Hillrunner.com. I will also be posting on the General Discussion forum so anyone who would like can respond with comments, additions, or questions about what I will be discussing.
