mile repeats

hey guys,

it would be good idea to include mile repeats weekly as tempo intervals or 10k pace workouts?, it seems that these workouts are great confidence builders.

Mile repeats have been considered "a classic on the track-training regimen". Check out this article if you'd like: http://www.runwashington.com/archive0209/features/trainmilerpt07.html . I think I've also seen them in training programs of some well-known coaches.

I don't know if I'd do them weekly but they are a great workout and I would suggest working them in. Mix them in with the rest of the menu of workouts and maybe you'll find yourself doing them every other week or twice every three weeks or something like that. As for pace, play around with them a bit. You could do Daniels-style cruise intervals, you could do 10K pace workouts. Mile repeats are pretty flexible if you are willing to experiment.

I am probably way off here but my idea was to start at 1/4 mile repeats at the pace you want to race your next race at and build those up to 10 repeats and then change to 1/2 mile repeats until you can hit 10 of them then 3/4 and finally full mile.

For instance I want to build my race pace to 6:00 minutes per mile (or so).  So I will train my body at 1/4 mile repeats to learn what that effort is until I can do 10 of them fairly easily.

But of course my goal is to run a half mary in about 1:20:00 - I am thinking that will be a fall event.

Mile repeats are a classic workout and work for either, depending on the pace and interval.  1K, 2K, and 1200m repeats work nicely, as well, depending on the level of progression of the athlete.

Why dink around? Go for it, be the best. It is worth whatever risk there is even if you fall short. You will be better.
