Great article. As I was reading the article, I was thinking that's why you train your hardest to get into whatever shape you can, hopefully in better shape than your goal. Then, I got to the moral of the story and that's just what Magill had to say.
Even if there is such a thing as a perfect race, you can't count on it. You might get to experience it a handful of times in your life, if that much. There are so many factors that, even if you handle every factor within your control perfectly, there's bound to be something out of your control that didn't go perfectly. Honestly, though, how often do we handle everything within our control perfectly? We make mistakes. The key is to not get on ourselves about them. Correct and move on immediately before a mistake becomes an ordeal.
