Interesting in that it seems to contradict other research I have seen. It will be interesting to see if follow-up studies will confirm or contradict this one.

Either way, once again, the health benefits of running for most of us here are likely a side benefit. We appreciate the health benefits but they aren't why we run. I don't see my practices changing regardless of how this plays out.

Did they think of checking the stats of Ultra marathoners?
 
 
Also, they studied only 49 runners - all Greek.  That cannot translate very well to a much greater and more worldly population.
 
My training isn't as high as most serious runners but it has been pretty good at times.  My systolic BP has always been measured between 104 and 110.  This has even happened after jogging into the clinic (I was late) after a hectic drive.  So maybe lots of running is an increased risk for Greeks.
 
It doesn't seem to be for me.
