Withrow, Kaltenbach win Foot Locker Cross Country Championships
Matthew Withrow and Katelyn Kaltenbach won the boys’ and girls’ Foot Locker Cross Country Championships for high school runners Saturday December 13 at San Diego’s Balboa Park.
Withrow, a senior from Tinley Park, Ill., won the 5,000 meter race in 14:55, two seconds better than runner-up Galen Rupp, a senior from Portland, Ore. Senior Shadrack Kiptoo, from Albuquerque, N.M., was third in 14:58. The Midwest Region team won 36-39 over the runner-up West Region.
A junior from Aurora, Colo., Kaltenbach won the 5K race in 17:24, one second ahead of freshman Marie Lawrence, from Reno, Nev. Jennifer Barringer, a junior from Oviedo, Fla., finished third in 17:35. The Midwest won easily over the West 26-57.

Hunter-Galvan breaks 50 km record at Sunmart Texas Trail Endurance Run
Liza Hunter-Galvan won the women’s 50 km title in course-record time on Saturday at the Sunmart Texas Trail Endurance Run. A San Antonio native, Hunter-Galvan won in a course record of 3 hours, 35 minutes, 48 seconds. Dave Terris, also of San Antonio, won the men’s title in 3:24:37.
Marco Oliveria of Santos, Brazil (4:33:42), and Traci Admunson of Fort Worth, Texas (7:16:40), won the men’s and women’s 50-mile titles, respectively, at Sunmart.
The largest ultra marathon event in the United States, the Sunmart races attracted more than 1,000 competitors from 38 states and six countries.
