Below are a few quotes from Friday's press conference:
|
|
Deeja Younquist, upon being asked about increasing her mileage recently: "I
used to run about 50 miles a week just for stress relief, my job is very
demanding and now I've doubled that, a little bit more than that."
|
|
Deeja Younquist on her breakthrough race at the Chicago Marathon: "I just
wanted to finish, I've never run one all this way and I felt OK afterward. I
thought it would be worse than it was. I like the way I felt."
|
|
Sara Wells on what has helped her progress: "I guess just the support that
I've gotten from all of the team and then going up there has been really good
for me...there's been a lot more up and coming runners, long distance runners
and women and having Deena Drossin who's setting...world records, not only US
records."
|
|
Deeja Younquist on doubling her mileage: "Well, I built up to that
point...I kind of like it that way. It keeps me on task, I get home from work, I
run again. It keeps the day structured and it wasn't hard on my body
actually."

|
Darren De Reuck (Colleen's husband and coach): I don't think anybody that makes
the team wants to leave too much on the course tomorrow because you have to turn
around and start preparing for the Olympics. The turn around is not like a
Boston/Chicago or Boston/New York combination because where you have a lot more
time to rest and recover...If you're on the team, even if it's a 2:32 and you're
on the team, that's fine. It's the same thing, you know, and you're obviously
saving yourself a little bit more. But if it takes a 2:29 to get on the team,
that's what you've got to do."
