« on: July 10, 2007, 06:55:07 PM »
Double World 3000m Steeplechase champion and World Record holder Saif Saaeed Shaheen (QAT) has announced today that he will be forced to miss the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan due to a knee injury.

The 24-year-old had planned to run the 3000m Steeplechase and the 5000m in Osaka but has been bothered by a knee injury for the past few months,

"I am disappointed not to get a chance to make it 3 World titles in a row but I have to be sensible and let my knee rest so that I can prepare for the Olympic Games next year,"" said Shaheen. "I was in very good shape before the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene but I hurt my knee during a track session and was forced to miss this race and also the IAAF meetings in Ostrava and Athens."
