Lize Brittin's newly published eBook
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:27:22 PM »
Some of you are familiar with Lize's blog, Training On Empty (http://trainingonempty.blogspot.com). She started the blog, which shares its name with her book, as a means of trying to generate publicity for a then-unpublished manuscript about the two-time Foot Locker finalist's near-fatal battle with anorexia in her teens, twenties and thirties, but it's become a worthwhile blog in its own right.

Anyway, Lize has gone ahead and published her 65,000-word story on Smashwords.

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/243502

The cool thing about Smashwords is that you can download the book in virtually any format -- HTML, plain text, Kindle, PDF, .rtf, etc. And at $5.99 it's a steal.

I wrote a review of the book here: http://chimprefuge.com/2012/10/08/review-of-training-on-empty-2/

I think this book makes an extremely valuable resource for not only young women runners but parents and coaches too. As I detail in the review, the book combines a personal memoir with a lot of practical and background information (most books of this type seem to be either one or the other -- personal vs. clinical) and is therefore unique. Regardless, it's both a haunting and moving account, and is straightforward without being melodramatic.

Kevin, it's good to see you around. This definitely sounds like a book to read. Thank you for sharing.

Yeah, I have neglected this site for quite a while for indecipherable reasons. Had to believe you've been live on the Web for...must be 12 or 13 years.

Well, a lot of things change along the way and people, for various reasons, come and go but I always love to see good minds like yours show up here, even if only occasionally. Yes, we've been going strong (or so I'll claim) around here for over 13 years now. It sometimes amazes me that people have been crazy enough to stick around for that long but being crazy is part of being a runner, right?
