Unfortunately, I do not follow the sport at the scholatic level all that closely. I did note that the major news in this state was about a girl who ran 16:56 on a flat, hard 5K XC course last weekend (I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the course) apparently becoming only the second girl in state history to go under 17:00 — while not completely certain who the other one was, it would seem logical to assume that it was Melody Fairchild — and the performance is the second best in the nation this year, one second off the best. Needless to say, she is considered the odds-on favorite to win the individual state title in her class this season.
