I’m the original poster. Thanks for the info and links. I was very skeptical about the idea that running in heat and humidity is mostly a mental battle.
I run in hilly terrain and have noted that the most substantial pace impacts for me in this weather are on the inclines — in other words, my pace slows more significantly on uphills in this worth compared with more level to rolling stretches (I don’t think I have any truly level stretches – LOL). That seemed to indicate to me that the overheating and/or dehydration was having a very pronounced impact on my strength.
I’m just hoping that I haven’t lost pace over the Summer, and that I will maybe even show improvement versus my Spring runs once Fall gets here. I guess I’ll find out, as I have a 10K race in two weeks. Unless it’s hot and humid that morning — very possible!
