Classic. I remember some of those names and teams. 1976 was my first year in cross. I won my first race
that year at Ellwood City. Took the lead and was unconscious. Scared out of my head. Remember grabbing
the tounge depressor with the number “1” on it. Saw it down in the basement last year. Muddy with overcast
skies and a light snow. We finished on the cinder track. Real muddy down by the river. Had boards laid down
and it was tough to pass. When we came out of the bottom I made a move up the hill and never looked back.
I looked exactly like the skinny, glasses wearing, 15 year-olds you see in these pictures with baggy sweats.
