By the way, I also saw the term “overuse injury” creep into the article. I hate that term. Most “overuse injuries” are not caused by overuse but instead by improper use. I'd like to coin a new term, “improper use injuries”.
My thinking on this is that it's not overuse that causes injury, it's undertraining. Improper use of your body when it's not ready to handle a given workload is what usually leads to “overuse injuries.”
Smart training with gradual progression and integrated “rest” will allow most to avoid injury, it kind of seems like common sense doesn't it? 😉 Slowly build up, adapt and recover, then repeat…
It's been working for me since I wised up after my last inury, now I've been running injury free for 5 years.
