basically is a combination of everything( long runs, easy runs, workouts), but i think that the best way to improve economy is doing workouts at R ( mile race pace ) and I pace(roughly 2 mile -5k race pace), hills, strides and form drills.

But again, its a combination of everything, because if you do the workouts that i describe above and not do endurance workout (i.e. long runs), your form is going to be sloppy and your economy wont be as good.  hope this helps.
