First, do you really think a few form drills or strides are a hard day? I don't really consider those hard days. They usually even help recovery.

Second, Lydiard was for scheduling the training as if everything is going to do great and being flexible with following through on the schedule. Go ahead and schedule the workouts but, if you need more recovery, then just postpone or cancel one.
