There isn't much I can do at this late date but I was planning to go to the track several times. More to gauge potential race pace then anything else. I don't want to go out too fast and die or too conservativly and miss my potential.
I've never raced shorter than a 5k; The only thing I've done even close is 1600m repeats late in the marathon training cycle; and I haven't done that since last April. The distance, the track and indoor racing is all new to me.
Meanwhile, my 8 year old daughter is shopping for new running shoes for her upcoming indoor debut. Ironically she has more experience at her race distances than I do at mine. She's a veteran of many 'kids' races and her age group is almost always under 800m.
