Tradition itself is not a good reason to exclude any event. The world competes in the half-marathon, the World Road/Half Champs has proven a great draw for talent. K. Goucher has never medaled in that event, in spite of her self-proclaimed strength for the distance. Just nix that event in Olympic years and space it halfway between the men's and women's marathons (even use the last half of the marathon course) in the OG athletics schedule and run men and women on the same day (a.m./p.m.?). The chief component in its favor is that it would draw viewers (something cc might fail at) and thus bring revenue to organizers.
