you may also want to sit down with your significant other… spouse and/or kids (if they are old enough)… find out their thoughts… consider if you can get up early to run, if there is a shower at your place of employment, if you can run to work or after dark SAFELY… would it be enough to run on a treadmill… can you fit in cross training instead or toss the kids in a jog stroller, let the bike along while you run or you run while they are playing soccer or at scouts or whatever they do…

I am very lucky to have a husband who is as supportive of me as I am of him… he goes to the gym while I get dinner, then he does dishes while I supervise homework… I (used to) go to track in the morning and if the kid needed a ride to school he would do it… basic sharing and both benefit… I am also lucky in having a shower at work so most of my running for many years was M-F on my lunch break which made me brown bag it, save money & eat decently…I did my long runs on a treadmill while my (then younger) kids watched TV…

be flexible, see what fits… for years the only speed work I did happened to be 5K races I took my kids to… we have LOTS of matching shirts and they won a few prizes… make your running part of the family time if you can… jog strollers and kid fun runs help… and if you're lucky (as I have been) your kids run in HS and still run as they get older… my older son will turn 20 this October and has started training (with a friend) for his first marathon in November… it's part of their life too…
