I HAVE TO eat before an early morning run.  Even as little as a half a piece of bread is enough to get me through a 20 miler.  Without I feel soooo drained.  I assume it's probably just hunger pains more than anything as a half piece of bread is only about 50 calories which equated to about a half mile of fuel.
