Sue, I think everyone's times were fast. The conditions were very good for racing and a lot of people ran as well as they could have. Not a lot of complaints from people about going out too fast and burning out or having too much left at the end, just a lot of good, smart, hard racing.
Anne, they in fact don't use chip timing. They have a good old fashioned finish chute system. Times I believe are recorded electronically as people cross the finish line and they have several lines in the finish chute to handle mass finishes. Really, while I've never been back in the big mass finish, everything I've seen suggests they handle it very well.
Also, walkers finish at a different location with no official times so there isn't the worry of masses of walkers mixed in among the slightly smaller masses of runners around the middle of the pack.
