If you are going to take those days off, why “cut back” for the final 4 days before the half you want to do? Those days are your cut back. If I were you, I'd train right up to the tournament, use the time at the tournament as the cut back, then train right up to the half, making sure the final day or two would be easy but not shying away from at least one hard day in the week before the half.

Of course, I'd also go for a 2 week or even 10 day taper but that's just because I've always personally found 3 weeks to be too long.
