I've been very curious about the number of records broken in swimming at the Olympics. It seems to happen every 4 years. Do these people not compete outside of the Olympics or are they competing against inferior opponents outside of the Olympics that don't push them to records or what's going on? It just seems very strange. I know, we can expect to see a record or two next week in T&F but multiple per day every day?

If anyone who pays enough attention to swimming to know why records are so plentiful in the pool during the Olympics is reading this, I'd love to hear why. I'm just floored by how easy it seems to be for those athletes to continually break world records as if they were weak club records.
