Chris, I had one a few years ago in my foot. It was too painful to run on and I knew something was seriously wrong when it happened. I was on a run a couple miles from home and had to walk it in.
One thing I learned from the experience was that stress fractures do not always show up on an xray right away. In my experience, it did not show up on the xray till it began to heal a couple weeks later. I think there are other methods doctors use so you may want something other than an xray.
My other lesson learned was don’t try to run on it too soon. I ended up taking one step forward and three steps back. Make sure it’s completely healed before you run on it.
