Joel, I knew exactly what your point was. I was just having some fun. Even when I was in high school, I hated those golf course races. Even though I tended to run better on them because of the type of runner I am, I just never felt like that was true cross-country. My home courses in both high school and college had varied terrain, challenging hills, at points rutted trails, and went through whatever was there. That to me was real cross-country. I’ve always enjoyed those courses more than golf courses.
A course doesn’t have to be so challenging you can’t run fast on it to be cross-country but hills and varying terrain are a must.
