COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Marathon runner Deeja Youngquist withdrew her appeal of a two-year doping suspension Friday.
The 29-year-old Youngquist tested positive for EPO during an out-of-competition exam before the 2004 U.S. Olympic trials, where she finished eighth, but challenged the validity of the test.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said the decision means Youngquist must serve the suspension, which ends Dec. 4, 2006. EPO, a synthetic hormone, stimulates production of red blood cells and increases aerobic power.
