    interesting my wife just told me (she's Japanese) that the name suzumebachi roughly translates as: little bird bee.

    She said those things are BIG!

    I have to think that they would hurt proportionately more than the smaller realtives.  They must have a large amount of venom – not to mention their mandables could be strong enough to really make a painfull bite.

    Talk about a PR – you see that swarm coming and you'll make dust.
