The slogan used by the local organisers of the 35th IAAF
    World Cross Country Championships, Mombasa,
Kenya (24 March 2007) this weekend is invested with
pride. At last, the nation that won the men's team title for
18 consecutive years, from 1986 to 2003, in the longest
winning streak in international sporting history, is getting
its chance to stage the event in Mombasa. For Kenya,
    “Cross country's coming home”.
And Kenya will again be defending the title it cherishes
above all others, the men's 12km team title, after
regaining it in Fukuoka last year following a two-year
interregnum when their latest, greatest rivals, Ethiopia,
held sway. The resumption of that contest is certain to be
one of the highlights of this Saturday's racing.
