GLASGOW, Scotland — World champion Bernard Lagat had a winning start to an Olympic year, defending his 1,500-meters title Saturday at the Norwich Union International indoor meet.

Lagat finished in 3 minutes, 45.89 seconds after taking the lead in the final 200. His victory here last year was his first as an American citizen.

“That was absolutely the kind of start I was looking for,” the Kenyan-born runner said. “That was a good test of how I've been doing in my training. This is where I am supposed to be right now.”
