INDIANAPOLIS – Chanelle Price of Easton Area High School in Easton, Pa., has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a new women's high school indoor 500m record Saturday at the 2008 New Balance Games held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York City.
Price won the race in 1 minute 10.30 seconds, which bettered the previous national prep record of 1:11.44 set in 2005 by Devon Williams of Towson Catholic (Md.). Earlier this indoor season Price won the 1,000 meters at the Bishop Loughlin Games at The Armory on December 15 in 2:47.85, which is the sixth-best performance all-time and a Pennsylvania state record.
Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
