INDIANAPOLIS – Chanelle Price has been named USA Track and Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the girls' 800 meter run Saturday at the Nike Outdoor Nationals last weekend in Greensboro, N.C.
A junior at Eastern (Pa.) Area High School, Price ran the fourth-fastest junior time in history, winning the 800m in 2 minutes, 2.76 seconds. Only Kim Gallagher (2:00.07), Mary Decker (2:02.29) and Robin Campbell (2:02.4) have ever run faster at the junior level. No female athlete has broken 2:03 in the last 25 years.
Price was aggressive in running the first 400 meters in 57.0 seconds and was at the 600-meter mark in 1:28.7.
Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
