COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Home Depot has renewed its sponsorship deal with the U.S. Olympic Committee through the 2008 Beijing Games and expanded its jobs program for U.S. athletes.

Home Depot, the world’s larger home improvement retailer, has been a USOC sponsor since 1994. Its previous deal was scheduled to expire at the end of 2004.

“Home Depot is proud to continue to support these dedicated and hardworking individuals as they pursue their Olympic dreams,” Home Depot president and CEO Bob Nardelli said Wednesday. “We’ve expanded our commitment to the USOC because we believe in the Olympic movement and the spirit of these athletes.”

Later this month, Home Depot will add 106 athletes as part of the jobs program, which allows athletes to work part-time at Home Depot stores while they train for the Olympics.

Home Depot has employed more than 300 athletes since 1992, with 160 of those going on to compete at the Olympic and Paralympic games. The new agreement gives the company 204 U.S. athlete-employees heading into the 2004 Athens Games.

Earlier this year, Home Depot agreed to a 10-year sponsorship of the Home Depot Center, a world-class amateur training complex in Carson, Calif. The company also is a sponsor of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams and Puerto Rico’s Olympic team.
