AnonymousI’m happy to say I finally ran a descent marathon. 3rd overall in 2:46:19. This is a five minute PR for me but I’ll admit my previous marathon PR was soft.
here are most of my splits by mile
1 – 6:17
2 – 6:18
3 – 6:16
4 – 5:55
5 – 6:02
6 – 6:06
7 – 6:09
8 – 6:10
9 – 6:17
10 – 6:15 1:01:45
11 – 6:04
12 – 6:13
13 – 6:12 – first half in 1:21
14 – 6:13
15 – 6:19
16 – 6:14
17 – 6:19
18 – 6:11
19 – 6:20
20 – 6:23 2:04:13
21 – ?
22 – ?
23 – 6:38
24 – 6:43
25 – 6:48
26 – 6:56
.2 – 1:44
Started out according to plan except for miles 4 and 5 but pulled it back together. Felt pretty stong through 21-22 miles and hung on from there.
I was in either 5th or 6th for most of the race. Was passed by the 2nd place finisher at around 18 miles. I passed #’s 4,5 and 6 between 22 and 25 miles. Winner ran 2:33, second place was 2:41.
Overall can’t complain about the conditions. There was a pretty nasty cross wind and minor head wind for parts of the race but temps were ideal at around 45-52 degrees.
Thanks for all the great advice and support leading up.

Great job, Steve. Thanks for sharing. Was that last 10k into the wind? Even though you slowed, you were still able to catch a few guys.

It sounds like your race qualifies as a ‘descent marathon’!
Great Job. A 5 minute PR is super. Too bad about the wind. To finish in the top 3 must have felt great.

I had to dig down and it helped that I had someone right on my A__. Fortunately, I was struggling less than the guys I passed. The guys I passed ran pretty significant positive splits. The guy who won ran with me for the first six miles and then took off. I bet he ran the 2nd half 5 minutes faster. The guy in second ran slightly negative splits and a strong tactical race. I was 1:21, 1:25. One guy flew out of the gates and lead for at least the first half. I thought he was either going under 2:20 or would crash. He crashed pretty hard. I was surprised to see runners at the end. I ran pretty much solo from 6-22 except for the guy who passed me at 18. The race had a turn around at 21 so I knew exactly what I was up against which was nice.
