If you have not heard, a timing error resulted in a change in Justin Gatlin's world record time. The timing officials rounded down his recorded time of 9.766 seconds to 9.76 seconds when official timing rules say it should have been rounded up to 9.77 seconds. As a result, Gatlin did not break the world record but instead tied it.
Below is a statement from Justin Gatlin on his men's 100-meter world record today being adjusted to 9.77 seconds:
“It is very disappointing to me that it has taken five days to determine the official time of a race with this significance. I remain confident that I am the World's Fastest Man and I look forward to proving it once again. My parents raised me to be agood sport but I don't want to share the World Record.”
