INDIANAPOLIS – Missy Buttry has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after successfully defending her individual title Monday at the 2004 NCAA Division III Central Region Cross Country Championships in Waverly, Iowa.

A senior at Wartburg College (Iowa), Buttry finished in 20 minutes, 17 seconds to win the women’s individual 6 km race and lead Wartburg to a runner-up finish in the team competition. A native of Shenandoah, Iowa, Buttry and her Wartburg teammates will compete in the school’s fifth consecutive NCAA Division III National Championships on November 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Now in its fourth year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
