Britain’s Paula Radcliffe, the women’s world record-holder in the marathon, obviously feels very much at home running the London Marathon – a flat and fast course on which she set the world mark of 2:15:25 two years ago and where she won again Sunday in the third-fastest time ever (2:17:42).

Given her credentials, Radcliffe must be regarded as the finest female marathoner in the world.

It’s time she came to Boston, faced Catherine Ndereba, and proves she can live up to that reputation on a more demanding course than London’s.

After the 109th running of the Boston Athletic Association Marathon Monday, it’s time to issue a public challenge to Radcliffe: Come to Boston next year and give race fans a showdown for the ages against Ndereba, who won the BAA race for a record fourth time Monday in 2:25:12.
