That said, if you're new to running, the first step is to just get running consistently. Start with about 3-4 days a week. Maybe an every other day plan. Run at a relaxed pace for 20 minutes. If you can't run for that long, walk every once in a while. Try to find a run/walk pattern you can sustain for 20 minutes. Over time, phase out the walking. Once running the whole way, add a little time until you're consistently running 30 minutes per run. Then decide how many days per week you want to run in the long term and gradually build up to that.
The two most important things to keep in mind are consistency and patience. Running isn't an instant gratification sport. The rewards come to those who get out there day after day, run after run, missing a planned run very infrequently. Do the work and the results will come.
