MAY 26 – PAULA RADCLIFFE’S former training partner and oldest friend in athletics claimed today the world record holder will know in four weeks time whether she will be fit enough to run in the marathon at the Beijing Olympics.
Radcliffe, who was an ambassador for London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, faces the prospect of missing the Games in China because of a stress fracture in her femur.
Doctors told her last week that she has no chance of being fit in time but she is refusing to believe them.
Liz Yelling, Radcliffe’s Bedford club-mate for nearly 20 years, told insidethegames today that her friend is upbeat and realistic about chances of being fit but is refusing to give up her dream of finally landing the Olympic medal that has eluded her in three previous appearances at the Games stretching back to her debut in the Atlanta Games 12 years ago.
