No good race is a fluke

Have you ever encountered a person who said “sure, I ran that but I could never do it again, it was just luck”? Or they say “yeah, I ran that but I’m not really that fit”? Maybe you’ve even been one of these people?

I’ve encountered these people. The thing to remember is that it isn’t true.

This often happens when a person just ran a big PR and doesn’t really believe they are truly fit enough to do that. It’s a form of imposter syndrome.

Here’s the thing. You can’t run beyond your fitness level. If you ran it, you’re fit enough to do it and you’re capable of doing it again.

Short of obvious things like a short course or a crazy tailwind on a point to point course, if you ran it, why would you not be able to do it again?

So believe in yourself. Believe in what you did. Performances don’t lie. What you did is in fact what you’re capable of.
