Looking back at 2022 and forward to 2023

It’s hard to believe the end of 2022 is already approaching! The year has flown by!

2022 has been an interesting year at HillRunner.com and for me personally, to say the least.

Things started off pretty normally. However, there were some bumps in the road during the spring and I went searching for something better. I had the host of HillRunner.com upgrade the server the site is on, cleaned up some things behind the scenes and moved HillRunner.com on to a new front end.

You might have noticed the speed changes. Things should be a fair bit faster. As for the front end changes, you probably noticed a few changes, hopefully for the better. My aim is always to improve your experience.

As for the blog, I was inconsistent to say the least in the second half of the year. I also pulled out some anonymous tracking (for both more privacy for you, even though it was anonymous, and for speed gains) so I can’t tell you what the most popular posts were like I have in past years. However, I’ll pick out some of my favorites:

Stop one rep short: Some people like to run until they can’t run any more in their workouts. I’m not at all a fan of this. I believe you should save those max efforts for race day.

Evolve: If your practices and beliefs aren’t evolving, you’re stagnating. More information is always becoming available. If you’re not using it to improve yourself, the world will pass you by.

Take time off when you need it: We can’t take time off for every little thing that comes along. However, if we are proactive about issues that could get worse, we can take a few days off now to avoid weeks or months off later.

Racing is never easy: It’s not supposed to be. Nothing done at 100% effort is easy. Being fit doesn’t mean it will be easy, just that you can perform better. If you go in expecting it to be easy, you’re going to be in for a bad surprise when the race happens and that expectation could sabotage your race day.

Set goals, then forget about them?: You need goals to know what you’re heading toward. However, focus on the process, not the end result, most of the time.

What’s to come in 2023?

Honestly, I’m not totally sure. I do want to get back to a more consistent blogging schedule and that will be a priority. As for new tools or features on the website, I’ll be sending out a survey in January to see what you like, what you don’t like and what you would like to see added or improved upon. I want to know what you think so I know what I can do to make your experience the best possible.
