Monthly Update

This article was originally posted by Ed at the original HillRunner.com Blogs.

Instead of a daily or weekly blog post I will do a monthly update instead.

After all that time off from running I am finally getting back into good shape. I started running again on 03/10/2015 and here is a simple breakdown of each month through the end of June.

March – 16 runs – 39.66 miles – 2.48 miles per run (average) – 5 hours 17 minutes – 7:59 average pace per mile

April – 26 runs – 113.79 miles – 4.38 miles per run (average) – 14 hours 34 minutes total – 7:41 average pace per mile

May – 24 runs – 129.46 miles – 5.39 miles per run (average) – 16 hours 9 minutes total – 7:33 average pace per mile

June – 28 runs – 186.8 miles – 6.67 miles per run (average) 22 hours 56 minutes total – 7:22 average pace per mile

Win some cool HillRunner.com gear!

It’s Boston Marathon time! You know you’re already thinking about who will win and how fast the winning times will be. Why not win something with your predictions?

We’ll have two winners, one each for the men’s and women’s races.

How to enter:

– Pick the top 3 for each race

– Pick the winning time for each race

– Get them to me, via comments, contact form, email, Twitter, Facebook or any other method available.

Scoring

If one of your chosen top 3 wins: 5 points

If one of your chosen top 3 finishes second: 3 points

If one of your chosen top 3 finishes third: 1 point

2 bonus points for each runner who finishes the exact place you pick for them.

In case of tie, the tiebreaker will be whose predicted time is closer to the actual winning time.

Again, the men’s and women’s races will be scored separately. We’ll have a winner for each.

Here is the most recently updated elite entries list I was able to find.

The elite women start at 9:32. I will accept any entries received by 9:00 Boston time (8:00 Central) race morning.

My daily run thoughts

This article was originally posted by Ed at the original HillRunner.com Blogs.

In an effort to keep myself honest and get myself out there even if motivation is low I thought having a daily run blog would help. I also hope that it may inspire others and get them either running or become more consistent as well.

Today’s run was uneventful – a short three miler at a 7:54 pace. It did feel very good – still a bit more of an effort than before my long break from running but not as tough as a week ago. (I started running again on 3/10/2015 after a five month hiatus.)

I was thinking that my racing season would be very short and at the end of the year but the way things are coming back it might not have to be as truncated as I first thought – only time will tell.

See you tomorrow –

Long time off is over.

Due to a set of circumstances partly out of my control I lost five solid months of training. Coach Ryan has taught me how to make the past, "the past" and look forward. So, I have run seven of the last eight days – I think I am back it! Now of course they have all been about two miles and at a slow 8:00 minute per mile pace – but I am getting out there. I know that in a matter of weeks – things will start coming back nice and strong. Al’s run is so important to me because of Team Hillrunner – I am focused strongly on that race and it is in fall – I have time.

I look forward to posting my furthered success of improvement in the coming weeks and months.

The Washington Post is catching up

Reported on this last year

Last year, I blogged twice about the latest trends in running shoes. Essentially, that the minimal shoe market was reverting back to the mean and the pendulum was beginning to swing toward the "maximal" end.

Well, now the Washington Post is up on this latest development.

Not pretending to be holier than thou. Just interesting how trends that we could see a year ago are now making it into the mainstream media as if they are fresh, breaking news.
