Training

All things training. Mostly advice and tips but maybe questions, general comments, or who knows what else.

Four running talents

We all have our own mix of talents

Most people, runners and otherwise, think of talent as one thing: the natural ability to run fast.

While this is definitely a talent, I believe there are other talents that make runners who they are.

Cutback weeks

When you’re in hard training, do you ever get to the point where you’re just dragging? You’re dead tired and nothing you do can get you feeling good again?

While sometimes we need to work through fatigue in order to come out the other end stronger, we also need to be careful to not get too deep into this fatigue tunnel. This is why I believe most runners would benefit from cutback weeks.

Inspired by the Olympians?

What an Olympics it was! I hope you were able to enjoy it, I know I managed to watch almost the entire track and field program and it was fantastic!

Are you feeling inspired by watching the Olympians perform their amazing feats? Feeling fired up and ready to step up your training?

Rest: it matters but what does it mean?

What counts as rest? Maybe a nice easy run with a friend

We all (hopefully) know that both your hard workouts and your easy runs/rest matter. The hard days are the stimulus for improvement but recovery is when the improvements happen so you need to make sure you’re recovering adequately. Not to mention, if you don’t recover adequately, you’ll eventually break down and either get burned out or injured.

But what classifies as rest? Well, that’s a difficult question.
