I see so many people worrying about that last 1% it takes to be great. Those little things that will make the difference of seconds. I’m not a fan.
Why not? Why not squeeze out every second you can get? What if you come up 3 seconds short of your goal and that extra 1% would have been worth 5 seconds?
Well, the problem is that these people often focus so much on that last 1% that they tend to forget to cover all of the first 99%. They cut corners on the big things that will make a big difference in order to have the time and energy to chase the marginal gains that will give them a few seconds here and there.
Hopefully, you can see the problem with this. If you’re so focused on chasing seconds that you overlook something that will give you minutes, you’ll do a major disservice to yourself.
Take care of the fundamentals. Do the big things that will produce big results. Only once you have given serious focus to these things, then you might benefit from those little things that will give you those final few seconds.
If not everything is going to fit, which is often the case for those of us who live in the real world, then give up the 1% gains and make sure you’ve covered everything you can in the 99% category first.
Remember, don’t overlook the 99% in order to chase the 1%.
